How does coaching take place?

Each coaching is unique and adapts to the needs and specificities of clients. Nevertheless, there are generally major steps.

First, choose your coach. This is an important step because coaching is based on a quality relationship. This can be done for example by looking at the profiles of the coaches (on the internet or the directories of coaching associations): which skills, experiences or vision of coaching suit the most or resonate the best? It can also be done by getting recommendations from one's network.

The first step will be our preliminary session. This session enables us to meet and get to know each other. I will tell you about my approach and answer any questions you may have. I’ll ask you about your needs and objectives. We can also talk about how many coaching sessions you’re interested in, and how long you’d prefer to spend in each session. Coaching generally lasts from 3 to 12 months and the duration of a session between 60 and 120 minutes.

Then we’ll alternate between coaching sessions and action phases. During each coaching session, the client will work on a sub-objective of their overall objective with the coach. Depending on the work in the session, the client will have become aware of new things about themself, their environment, or will have defined actions to be implemented by the next session. Between two sessions, the client implements the actions that were taken and continues the reflections that may have emerged from the awareness. At the next session, the client shares their feedback on progress and learning. And then work with the coach on a new session goal. The coaching sessions and action phases alternate and feed each other with the clients feedback on actions and the adjustments made during subsequent sessions with the coach.

The last session includes a retrospective on progress made by the client since the start of the coaching, the lessons learned and how can those be consolidated beyond the coaching.
